Lemon laws provide consumer protection against misrepresentation or fraud in meeting any standards claimed regarding the quality and performance of cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, boats, and other "lemon" products at the time of sale. It legally empowers consumer to force an automobile manufacturer to replace a defective or unsafe vehicle.

Lemon laws often vary from state to state and may not necessarily cover used or leased vehicles. Each state has its own “Lemon Law.” The right awarded to consumers by Lemon Laws may exceed the warranties expressed in purchase contracts
If your car has been repaired for the same defect four or more times and the problem is still occurring, you have a lemon. Of course, the defect must be something significant which substantially hinders the vehicle’s use, value or safety. The lemon law covers a wide range of defects including but not limited to:
